Why Akuarium.my Exists

Akuarium.my was created to help Malaysia fishkeepers make clearer decisions about fish care, equipment and long-term tank planning. The point is not to repeat a specification sheet. It is to explain what the information means in a real aquarium, what may be unsuitable and what should be checked before money or livestock is committed.

Please note: Akuarium.my does not sell aquarium products directly. We do not stock inventory, run a shop, or operate a merchant platform. Our role is to explain trade-offs clearly: what may fit a beginner tank, what may be overkill, and what buyers should double-check before spending money.

How We Use Experience and Research

Our guides may draw from firsthand experience, direct observations, practical testing, manufacturer specifications, product packaging, local marketplace listings, published aquarium references and reliable feedback from other fishkeepers. These sources do not all carry the same weight, so the article should make clear which type of evidence is being used.

External information is checked and compared before it becomes a recommendation. The authors then consider the needs of the fish, the limits of the equipment, Malaysian conditions and the practical effect on the setup. We do not turn an unverified seller claim, general online research or secondhand information into invented personal experience.

When an article includes firsthand testing, a direct observation, a local keeper interview, survey responses or keeper feedback, the relevant context and limitations should be stated. Not every product mentioned on Akuarium.my has been personally tested.

Who writes Akuarium.my?

Akuarium.my is written and reviewed by active aquarium hobbyists in Malaysia. Each published guide has a named author who is responsible for the judgment presented on the page. Author experience does not replace evidence, and external research is not presented as firsthand experience.

How we review aquarium gear

We start with the aquarium rather than the product listing. The fish, tank size, bioload, flow, temperature, lighting and maintenance needs determine whether an item makes sense. We then compare manufacturer specifications, product packaging, local marketplace listings and reliable buyer feedback, checking conflicts and practical limits before publishing a recommendation.

When we have conducted a firsthand test, made a direct observation, interviewed a local fishkeeper or collected survey responses, the article should state the method, context, sample size or limitations that matter. We do not convert unverified seller claims or general online information into invented personal experience.

Our review process focuses on:

• Tank suitability: whether the product makes sense for small tanks, planted tanks, betta setups, community tanks, or higher-bioload tanks.
• Flow, heat, and light balance: whether a filter may create too much current, whether a heater is actually needed in a Malaysian home, or whether a light may be too strong for a beginner planted tank.
• Maintenance difficulty: how easy the item is to clean, install, replace, or adjust for a beginner.
• Local buying context: whether the product type is commonly found on Malaysian marketplaces or aquarium shops, and whether buyers should double-check model numbers, plug type, warranty, seller reputation, and updated specifications before purchasing.
• Common buyer complaints: repeated issues such as noisy pumps, weak suction cups, unclear model listings, strong water flow, fragile plastic parts, or confusing instructions.
• Beginner mistakes: common problems such as choosing a tank that is too small, using too much light, overfeeding, skipping water conditioner, or assuming a starter kit includes everything needed for fish safety.

Not every product mentioned on Akuarium.my has been personally tested. Pages that rely mainly on specification checks, marketplace research or published aquarium knowledge must remain clear about that evidence level. When practical testing is available, we report the setup, observed result, real-world impact, suitable use range and important limitations rather than presenting the result as a universal laboratory finding.
